The Bold Shoulder is back!

Adding Removable Shoulder Pads to Existing Garments

We love how shoulder pads (moderate sized, not the “football player” look) improve our visual appearance:

  • Squares the look of narrow or sloping shoulders
  • Balances out a wider hip
  • Makes the waist appear smaller
  • Improves the hang of some fabrics
  • Elongates your silhouette

Add removable shoulder pads to existing garments easily. The difference in your appearance will be amazing.

We recommend raglan style shoulder pads with Velcro already attached to them. (See below). You only need one pair (buy flesh tone) which can be used in all your garments.

Purchase sew-in Velcro in 1/2″ or 5/8″ widths which is available in black and white. Choose the softer version.

Cut the Velcro strips into 3″ lengths (unless your shoulder seam is shorter). Use the soft side of the Velcro and discard the stiffer side. The strips will be attached to the garment’s shoulder seam.

Attach Velcro to garment shoulder seams – temporary application:
Use glue stick which washes out when laundering garment. Use the temporary method for garments that have not been laundered and sweaters. Apply glue to the wrong side of Velcro and press in place over shoulder seam. Apply about 1 1/4″ down from the neckline seam. It should not extend pass the shoulder seam of garment. Allow to dry completely before pressing shoulder pad into place.

For a more permanent application:
Apply fusible web strips (Steam-a-Seam) to the back of the Velcro strip and fuse in place with an iron (according to manufacturer’s directions) on the shoulder seam. Allow to cool completely. Over time, you may need to re-fuse the strips if they come off. Stitching through “well” of shoulder seam-down middle of Velcro is another way to attach Velcro permanently.

Choose the small raglan with Velcro (SPR1635) that can be attached to shoulder seams.

The Capsule Wardrobe

Web Analytics

In 1973, the term “capsule wardrobe” was coined by British style expert Susie Faux, owner of the London boutique called Wardrobe. This concept has also been referred to as clusters, units, and modules.  No matter what the name, the same idea has existed for years in France and England where closets were very small. This is the ultimate “less is more” philosophy.

WHAT?

A Capsule Wardrobe is a well-chosen, small group of clothes that mix and match into a variety of combinations to meet your daily needs.

A capsule wardrobe consists of:

  • Well-fitting garments that you love!
  • Minimal number of coordinated separates (about 5-22 garments)
  • A flattering neutral color palette
  • Garments with little decoration or embellishment
  • Versatile pieces that can be worn in a variety of ways
  • Timeless quality classics that can be worn for many years

WHY?

The benefits of having a capsule wardrobe are:

  • Increased closet space which is great for small or “no closet” closets
  • Getting dressed is easy, fast, and fun again
  • No more wasted purchases that remain unworn
  • More outfit possibilities that were not obvious with an overstuffed closet
  • Reduced upkeep and maintenance
  • Less confusion as you can see at a glance what your choices are
  • More money as you are not buying mistake after mistake
  • More time as less time spent shopping and being seduced by sales

Having a capsule wardrobe is liberating. It is a great way of clearing your mind and helping you to focus (on other things).~~~ Susie Faux

HOW?

You may need to create several different capsules depending on your life style and your wardrobe needs. If you coordinate your capsules with each other, your clothing outfit options will be maximized greatly.

Possible capsule options:

  • Career/business
  • Weekend/casual
  • Formal/entertaining
  • Sports/exercise

Less is more, especially in your closet. A capsule wardrobe has become the new luxury. You will never have to say “I have nothing to wear.” Instead, you will say, “What do I get to wear today?

Happy Capsuling!
